Honolulu restaurateur Peter Kim plans to open Oahu's second Liliha Bakery in May at the former Sam Choy's Breakfast Lunch & Crab restaurant on Nimitz Highway.

Kim is duplicating the iconic Liliha Bakery concept as he expands into downtown Honolulu's urban core, and will grow the restaurant side of the business, adding seven times the number of seats than the original bakery to his dining room.

Kim plans to hire 60 to 70 employees for the 165-seat restaurant and bakery.

That's the idea. They're trying to minimize or eliminate bus riders from hogging all the coco puffs.

...not a good idea to open another location. "if the wheel still works, don't fix it" - one location in Liliha is still better. Why chance it with another location that is expensive to own or lease improvements= loses to come. It takes a lotta coco-puff's to make up potential losses. If you have a great location, why do you need another??? Your profit per square foot won't amount to much, but good luck anyways.

Did you ever see that place in Liliha? It's always packed and the parking lot is full. They definitely needed a bigger dining area so I'm glad Peter got this place. Hope it works out for him.

Yeah that's right, tell a successful enterpreneur who owns over two dozen restaurants that he doesn't know what he's doing...

Parking at the old Sam Choy's was always a problem. Limited and required valet parking. Unless Kim has new ideas for space and free parking, I'd rather go to the Lililha store.

Wow, this is great! Maybe now with a bigger place and more business, they won't shrink the Cream Puffs and return them to the larger size they once were without charging all of us MORE! The food here is always great, the atmosphere is very friendly, the Chantilly Cakes are the BEST in the whole world, but please Mr. Kim go easy on the shrinkage and higher prices of all your ONO delights! Mahalo for reading.....

Not as good as before. As they say keep the prices the same and shrink the product. Taste quality is deteriorating.

He owns 25 restaurants (check out the other story in today's paper), so, money should be no problem for him. He's already looking to open a 3rd one in Pearl City area or West Oahu.

Great to have another place like that to eat at around that area instead of just Zippys.

Yeah, Zippy's food is just ok. Probably chili is the best but other than that everything else is just ok.

Expansion for the Liliha Bakery is good. I support Peter. Peter and his family are the successful owners of the Yummy Korean food chain. Great food, more than great products and Peter sees to it that value is packed into every plate. Liliha Bakery should be expanded because unless you live in the area, there is always huge traffic problems. Liliha Bakery has always been a favorite of my family and also of my parents. Good going Peter. Hugs to Jennifer too.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it! Pastries are good but Kim will raise the prices to subsidize his construction cost. At the higher price, it ain't worth it! Food is just average, everything is fried or grilled! Heart attack city right across from City Mill.

Agree, the food is just average so if they raise their prices customers will not come. Also, the lack of easy parking will hinder the grab and go bakery business.
