Prosecutors Thursday charged a 45-year-old man who allegedly sexually assaulted a 21-year-old woman in September after representing himself as a law enforcement officer.

Police said Michael Lee Carter, an inmate at Oahu Community Correctional Center, was arrested Wednesday afternoon in Chinatown on suspicion of first-degree sexual assault and kidnapping.

Police said the woman reported the man sexually assaulted her and held her against her will 7:20 a.m. Sept. 15 in Honolulu.

Prosecutors charged Carter with those crimes. His bail was set at $500,000.

I can't tell if this is simply incompetent reporting or willfully trying to bury another story embarrassing to the city and state.

Here are some of the important details you chose to leave out of this story:

In 2005, Carter was sentenced to 10 years for posing as a police officer and raping two women. This recent crime occurred while Carter should have been locked up. To make matters worse, He'd been sent to jail for sex assault and kidnapping in 1994 too.

This man is serial sexual predator who even calls himself "a monster," yet someone made the decision to set him loose in Chinatown where, not surprisingly, he sexually assaulted another woman. Whoever made that decision to endanger the public like that should be in the jail cell with him for the next 20 years.

And Star-Advertiser, I don't know who think you're helping by trying to sweep this under the rug, but it's not the public and it's not your readers!
