A comeback effort for the Hawaii soccer team came up short in a 2-1 loss to UC Irvine tonight at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.

UH (7-8-1, 2-4-1 Big West) saw its chances of qualifying for the four-team BWC tournament all but disappear with the costly defeat. Barring a miracle, UH’s season will end next week Sunday in its home finale.

The Rainbow Wahine trailed 2-0 after the first 11 minutes but T.J. Reyno scored the first goal of her career to make it 2-1 in the 15th minute.

Freshman Kama Pascua was red carded with 31 minutes to play in the second half, however, making UH play a woman down the rest of the way. Quality shots were hard to come by against the Anteaters (9-6, 4-2).

The Wahine dropped to 2-5 at WPSS this season.
