The luxury Kahala Hotel & Resort is planning golden jubilee celebrations for its 50th anniversary throughout 2014 beginning with a proclamation from Gov. Neil Abercrombie Jan. 22, marking the day the hotel opened.

The day will be proclaimed "The Kahala Hotel & Resort Golden Jubilee Day," according to a news release.

Known for hosting heads of state, Hollywood celebrities and other luminary guests over the past half-century, the anniversary theme is 'The Legend Inspires, The Promise Continues.'

"We've had the privilege of serving multiple generations as well as providing the backdrop for life's greatest experiences like weddings, anniversaries, holidays, reunions and romance," said Shawn Sweeney, president of The Landmark Hotels Group, which manages the hotel.

Multiple generations? NO, I think not. Landmark bought it in 2006, a little soon for "multiple generations" -- except for the tilapia in the golf course's drainage ditches. Before that it was the Mandarin Oriental, before that it was originally the Kahala Hilton. Don't give yourself a fake legacy that you haven't earned, Sweeney. I remember when the place was built, and I didn't see you standing there with a golden shovel.
