David Seal, an alleged child molester who escaped four years ago from Hawaii State Hospital in Kaneohe, was arrested Tuesday on Hawaii island for allegedly killing his Puna neighbor and high school friend.

He allegedly stabbed Rory Wick, a 1999 graduate of Hana High School on Maui. He and Seal, two years Wick's senior, hung out together and were good friends, said Ha'aheo Kalani, Wick's classmate.

Seal was committed to the Kaneohe facility in 2002 after his acquittal by reason of insanity for the kidnapping and sexual assault of an 8-year-old Maui girl.

Hawaii County police said Seal is in custody at the Hilo police cellblock on suspicion of second-degree murder for the stabbing of the 32-year-old man in the Eden Roc subdivision of Puna. No charges have been filed.

Escaped in 2009 and no law enforcement agency put out an alert at airports for him? Any criminal can just hop on a plane and leave the island or state without anyone knowing.

How do "Locals" look? Obviously the people of many races grew up here, which makes them "local". Or does Pocho think only dark skinned ones are local and the fairer skinned ones must remain tranplants?

Where are all you liberals who sanitized the penal system by having this "acquitted by reason of insanity" baloney. Whether insane or not, no violent person should be let out. Hawaii needs the death penalty.

so again why are we not treating violent offenders in jail? they have a separate module at occc, send them there. it would be safer for the staff, and the general public.

So they'll put him back into Kaneohe hospital because he was never cleared for release by the so called doctors and still considered mentally incompetent to stand trial for committing any crimes, and then he can escape again and kill again..wonderful system we have here.....

Maybe he had a friend who took him on a boat to Hawaii. He might not have flown. Authorities should check flight records.

environmental, when should authorities check for flight records? From 2009 to 2013? It's a moot point by now, I would think.

I'm confused...they state the victims name, 32-year-old Rory Wic, then later state "His identity is being withheld pending positive identification and notification of his family". What? I hope the family didn't read about it here?
