Windy, wet weather starting to clear

By Star-Advertiser staff

LAST UPDATED: 02:00 p.m. HST, Nov 11, 2013

Windy weather with scattered showers, mostly in windward areas, should begin to taper off this afternoon.

The National Weather Service lifted a wind advisory this morning that had been in effect for all islands, except for the Big Island.

Strong trade winds of 15 to 35 mph that had been blowing since Sunday, dropped below advisory levels. Forecasters expect winds to be moderate through the rest of the week.

Radar and satellite images this morning showed scattered showers over all islands, with a few heavier showers over the Hilo area. The showers over the Big Island could continue through the evening.

A flash flood warning, posted early this morning for windward Haleakala slopes expired at 4 a.m.

Heavy, persistent rain prompted the advisory. Forecasters said gauges on several streams showed elevated water levels.

As drier air moves in from the north, the usual trade wind weather should return by Tuesday.

But changing weather conditions later in the week could bring more showers starting Wednesday.
