Wahoo's Kahala to close next week

By Erika Engle

LAST UPDATED: 01:37 a.m. HST, Nov 13, 2013

Wahoo's Fish Taco in Kahala will close after service a week from Tuesday.

Franchise owners Stephanie Gambetta and Noel Pietsch Shaw announced plans to close the eatery after selling the location to Japan-based Central Restaurant Group, which is planning its first Hawaii restaurant.

The sisters' second Wahoo's location did not have the sales volume needed to sustain the restaurant, Shaw said.

Most of the store's 23 employees will be offered jobs at the Ward Avenue Wahoo's, its Sandy Beach lunch wagon, its catering company, or some combination thereof.

Was just going to say the same thing. Maybe lack of advertising did them in.

In the corner near the Olive Tree Greek place. I've eaten at both Wahoo's; the Kahala one had a full bar and sports TV screens. The owners catered my daughter's wedding reception in 2007. Best of luck, Stephanie and Noel.

Over priced and lacking quality. Two major factors that will lead to their demise.

True. Poor service for a half empty restaurant too.

Wait staff should've been fired a long time ago. No service, no business....common sense in any business.

There are some locations, that are not successful, no matter who takes it over. This happens to be one of them.
Only a handful of parking, and only one way, and poor retail visibility.
Good luck to the next tenant.
