Following up on calls from the public, police arrested five suspects in separate burglary and theft cases in Kalihi.

Two men, ages 18 and 20, were arrested after a witness saw them burglarize a home in Kalihi at about 2:40 a.m. Wednesday. Officers responding to the call arrested the men at a Kuakini Street address on suspicion of burglary.

On Tuesday evening, police responded to a report of a man stripping a moped in Kalihi at about 7:45 p.m. Officers determined the Kalihi Valley man, 36, also drove the stolen moped and they found a glass pipe with the residue of a dangerous drug, police said. He was arrested on suspicion of unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle and drug offenses on Kaili Street.

A witness  also alerted police after seeing two male suspects search through his neighbor's vehicle in Kalihi at around 11:30 p.m. Monday, police said. Arriving officers investigated the scene and arrested the suspects, ages 13 and 18, on Palena Street.

About time witnesses report crime being committed to the police. We have to divorce ourselves from the "aino kea" attitudes and become more civic minded. Prior to Big Government control over education, schools taught a course in "Civics" which explain the responsibilties of citizens of a community.
