The Hawaii women’s basketball team played from behind Colorado State most of the way, survived to play overtime but fell behind again in a 65-60 loss to the Rams on Day 1 of the Waikiki Beach Marriott Rainbow Wahine Showdown.
CSU (4-1) had two players foul out in the extra period but the Rams went 6-for-6 at the line once the Rainbow Wahine (3-3) went to fouling in the last couple minutes of the extra period before a crowd of 1,028 at the Stan Sheriff Center.
UH temporarily survived a frantic finish in regulation which saw CSU’s Ellen Nystrom go to the line with a chance to win the game, tied at a 52 with 0.8 seconds left. Nystrom missed both at the line as the crowd yelled.
Senior forward Kamilah Jackson notched her fourth straight double-double in defeat with 17 points and 16 rebounds. But the Wahine shot only 28.2 percent to CSU’s 36.2 percent.
The Wahine continue play against UT Chattanooga at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
