Outdoor same-sex marriage celebration canceled

By Star-Advertiser staff

LAST UPDATED: 01:30 a.m. HST, Dec 02, 2013

Mayor Kirk Caldwell's Marriage Equality Family Day and Celebration at Thomas Square was canceled because of the weather.

The event was scheduled from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

However, the pre-registration of couples who will be married just after midnight was relocated to the Mayor's Office of Culture and Arts (MOCA), 550 South King St., 2nd Floor. License agents and event organizers were available from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm

Anyone who planned to get married after midnight at Leahi - The Club Lounge at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel, checked in at an information and registration booth. Interested couples had to pre-register in advance to receive their packet and ticket for the midnight ceremonies being held at the Sheraton Waikiki. Over 25 couples have signed up, including couples from the neighbor islands.

Attendees are asked to bring canned foods to donate to Save the Food Basket in recognition of World Aids Day today. Donations to the Red Cross will also be taken to aid the families in the Philippines affected by the recent typhoon.

Is weather an act of God or is it just coincidental? You decide.

Coincidental. Wow, that was such a hard choice to make.

Kapuna it's too late to suggest anything about an act of God. God did not halt the passing of the same sex marriage law no matter how much the church faithfuls prayed.

It is true, however, God allowing the same-sex marriage law to happen doesn't mean He approves it.

@syhud -- The "church faithful" prayerfully received a (not insignificant) religious exemption their evil adversaries attempted in vain to prevent. NO gay ceremonies on Holy Ground...that is the real story going forward.

In the Book of Job, God says that rain falls equally on the Just and the Unjust. To claim that God uses natural disasters to punish people is a simplistic, pagan view of religion.

Mother nature speaking up? I find it interesting that in almost every case where the day approaches for legal same sex marriage in almost every state that has past it, the weather has turned rotten, lol. Strange but true.

I hope the males were blood- checked for HIV.AIDS which will increase like in other states and countries soon after allowing SSM. Now in Greece, gay males are asking for disability payments of $900 a month. We are heavy into the slippery slope of gay liberalism.

pcman likes to try to set up the straw man of a causal relationship between the two issues when there is zero evidence to back it up. The two situations may or may not have a correlation (he doesn't ever offer actual research to back it up), but there is none, zero, zip, nada that shows that HIV-AIDS causes a rise in same-sex couples getting married or that same-sex couples getting married causes a rise in HIV-AIDS. None.

@Honolulugal -- Well over 1 million people worldwide die annually of AIDS-related diseases. The evildoers have awakened the sleeping giant that is traditional ohana; that is why our adversaries capitulated on the religious carve-outs. I challenge you to read today's (online) L.A. Times expose on Cardinal Mahony -- the disgraced man who shielded pedophile priests. When good, godly men don't stand up society decays and children suffer. I won't aid and abet immoral behavior that harms -- literally kills -- my fellow man. The illegitimate agenda of the LGBT crowd is a lethal threat to a civil and righteous society.
