Arson is blamed for two fires at Maui High School Friday morning.

Incendiary devices were found and police are investigating, a Maui Fire Department spokesman said.

The first fire alarm was reported at 5:32 a.m. Firefighters found a 55 gallon drum with about 15 gallons of used motor oil on the ground. Firefighters said someone tried to ignite the barrel with cardboard near the entrance to the main entrance to Building L on campus, but the barrel did not burn.

Firefighters returned to Maui High School at 7:02 a.m. when a fire broke out at a portable. The fire was extinguished before firefighters arrived and flames were contained to the entrance of the portable.

Damage is estimated at $5,000.
