An art lecture that was to be presented by Princess Akiko, a member of Japan's royal family, on Tuesday at Hawaii Pacific University has been canceled after she fainted and was hospitalized in Japan.

According to the Japanese Consulate in Honolulu, "The Imperial Household Agency announced yesterday (December 6th, Japan time) that Her Imperial Highness Princess Akiko of Mikasa momentarily fainted and was admitted to a hospital as a precaution. The agency also announced that her scheduled visit to Hawaii has been cancelled."

Akiko was due to watch storytellers tell Japanese and Hawaiian myths at the Hawaii Theater in Honolulu over the weekend.

On Tuesday, she was expected to speak at Hawaii Pacific University about the history of Japanese art in the British Museum.

The princess has a doctorate from Oxford University, where she specialized in Japanese art in the Western world.

Akiko's father was the late Prince Tomohito, a first cousin of Emperor Akihito.

For inquiries, contact the Japanese Consulate 543-3111.

I agree. We should get a teenager from New Zealand to write a song about it.

Meanwhile she sits in the lap of luxury, while we spend our time typing in worthless comments that a few dozen will read, at the expense of our $100 plus low bandwidth Oceanic/HawTel service...when we could be out enjoying the expensive day in paradise that we are paying for every second of our existence.

I'm not a racist. I don't care if the princess is Japanese or British or what ever. I don't give two hoots about any "royal" persons 'cept maybe someone of Hawaiian blood as we are living here.
