Man who allegedly ran over girlfriend with car turns himself in

A Hilo man who allegedly ran over his 41-year-old girlfriend during a fight Monday, surrendered to Big Island police Tuesday.

Justin Lee, 35, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault and second-degree reckless endangering and is being held at the Hilo police cellblock. He was also charged with bail jumping, contempt of court and violating terms of release.

His girlfriend, also from Hilo, is in a Honolulu hospital in serious condition. The victim was first treated at Hilo Medical Center and the later flown to Honolulu for treatment.after the incident Monday night during a domestic dispute at their home.

The woman reported that between 9 and 9:30 p.m. Monday, she and Lee got into an argument. Police said that as the argument escalated, Lee allegedly ran over her with a car and then fled on foot.
