Waikiki retail center may become luxury condotel

By Star-Advertiser staff

King's Village Shopping Center, a retail complex in Waikiki designed to resemble Honolulu around 1900, may be redeveloped into a luxury condominium hotel.

A local development partnership that bought the center  last year announced its redevelopment idea today, saying that planning is in a preliminary phase and that more details will be shared as they become finalized.

Construction is expected to begin at the end of 2016, according to the partnership involving BlackSand Capital LLC, Kobayashi Group and The MacNaughton Group.

just what waikik needs another damm condo/hotel in an already congested corridor....sickening of this concrete jungle which is slowly deteriorating with so many people complaining of the congestion, traffic, and just a bunch of tourist junk all over in waikiki....the planning commission responsible for this zoning and the govt. is slowlly destroying waikiki into another DUMP.

Honolulu around 1900?? I never would of guessed that on my winter trips. Just seemed to be some spray painter artist on corner, and ticky tack shops beyond. Anything would make that little area nicer. International Village seemed misused also, especially towards Kuhio street.
