A 59-year-old Pearl City man was killed crossing Farrington Highway at Aliinui Drive in Ko Olina Friday night, according to police.

Police said a 24-year-old Waipahu woman headed westbound on Farrington Highway in a 2011 Kia Forte struck the man, who was crossing Farrington Highway from north to south toward Ko Olina Resort, around 9:20 p.m. The man was not in a marked crosswalk, police said.

Police are investigating whether the woman was speeding, but said alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash. The area was clear and dry at the time of the collision and dimly lit by overheard street lights, police said.

The man sustained fatal injuries at the scene. His was the 54th traffic fatality this year, compared to 57 fatalities at this time in 2012.

45MPH zone, no chance if in near darkness. A 4000 pound vehicle going 45MPH always wins, in a foot race with a 200 pound man going at most 10MPH. My condolences .

At most 10 mph. You must not get much excercise if you can only run 10 miles per hour at most. Better get out there and start dodging cars and get in shape.

In response to gonegolfin, I think you've gone golfing if you think that 10 miles per hour is out of shape. A typical human runner runs around 12 miles per hour at SHORT sprints. A typical runner on an extended run will go 5 to 8 miles per hour. And that varies with age, weight, etc. Now, if you are an athlete such as an Olympic runner, than you will be able to run much faster than that. Odds are HonoluluHawaii is not a professional athlete. So if he IS running 10 miles per hour then he is not necessarily out of shape given age, weight, etc. So, no HonoluluHawaii, you are not necessarily out of shape. Gonegolfin is out of shape in mental capacity.

No one drives 45 there. Normal speed is closer to 55 and the road conditions make it safe to drive that fast. Now walking across it at night is bad news at either speed. If you are wearing dark clothes and can't see a car's headlights then you are gonna get hit. It's a shame

Those street lights mentioned must be pretty loud for them to be "overheard". Just sayin'.
