First family arrives for island holiday

By Michael Tsai

POSTED:
LAST UPDATED: 07:58 a.m. HST, Dec 21, 2013

President Barack Obama and the rest of the first family arrived at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam late Friday evening to begin their sixth consecutive Christmas vacation in Honolulu.

The Obamas are expected to spend the next 17 days at a luxury beachside rental in the same Kailua neighborhood in which they've stayed during their previous Hawaii vacations.

Air Force One touched down around 11:30 p.m. and the Obamas emerged about 15 minutes later to a rousing cheer from about 100 service men and women who had waited hours for a glimpse of the president.

The Obamas were greeted by Gov. Neil Abercrombie, Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard and Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell.

While daughters Sasha and Malia were quickly escorted to a waiting vehicle, Obama and wife Michelle took a few minutes to share hugs and handshakes with the assembled military personnel.

The president arrived in the islands with an acknowledged desire to rejuvenate himself following a tumultuous year that saw his political successes -- including his stare-down victory over Republicans in the government shutdown battle and the diplomatic breakthrough that yielded agreement by Iran to freeze its nuclear-enrichment program for six months -- overshadowed by the Obamacare website fiasco, revelations about the National Security Agency's questionable spying practices, and an inability to garner bipartisan congressional support for gun control measures and other priority legislation.

Hours before Obama and his family boarded Air Force One for Honolulu, the president held his final press conference of the year and, citing recent economic growth and falling unemployment numbers, expressed optimism that "2014 can be a breakthrough year for America."

How sweet: "he tries not to be a pain." LOL. Very considerate, this trying not to be a pain. Wish he'd applied that consideration to the chaos he's created for millions who've had their insurance canceled or the middle class people who can no longer afford insurance.

This isn't a vacation for President Emptysuit Pantsonfire. It's an escape from the wreckage in DC after he tossed the latest policy equivalent of a molotov cocktail into Obamacare by waiving the penalty/tax for those experiencing "hardship" from having their insurance canceled (you know, the policies he promised they could keep).

That chaos is nothing compared to the chaos that existed when GW was president. The thing is Obama is trying to fix a problem and he is succeeding. Problem with phony conservatives, they don't even recognize that a problem exist. It is a shame that we only have one party that is willing to deal with problems. Republicans just want to make pot holes around the world.

LOL. This whole national mess, cutting back in hours, less jobs, people afraid to spend, businesses afraid to hire, uncertainty of the future, can be attributed to one person: an inept Barack Obama and his economic policies, the disaster that is Obamacare, his divisiveness and the embarrassment of receiving the Lie of the Year award.

lol, Just love phony conservatives ignoring the mess the republicans created from 2001 to 2009. Let me remind you it was the republicans who blew out a balanced federal budget, started two wars based upon lies, and to top it off gave tax cuts during a time of war. Then they act surprised when the economy crashes. Stop being such idiots. Finally please call it what it is. Nixon care. I don't want republicans claiming Obama plagiarized Nixon.

Hornp: A mind is a terrible thing to waste. In this case, your loss of medium term memory is significant. 1. The Republicans CREATED the Clinton budget surplus by Forcing Clinton into a sensible plan for Federal spending. 2. Started two wars? Are you 12 years old? You'd have to be to not know that we were attacked from Afghanistan. However there's no excuse for not knowing that your lord and savior, President Emptysuit Pantsonfire, expanded the "good war" in Afghanistan, leading to the majority of casualties suffered there.. 3. And the old Bush lied about WMD in Iraq. He lied just like Guy Haggi lies about the weather forecast every night. 4. The first set of tax cuts were in the works before either war. 5. The economic crash is owned equally by Carter, Clinton, the Federal reserve. and the democrats in congress who sheltered Fannie and Freddie while pressuring them to make bad mortgage loans. 6. Nixon care: Since Nixon was a competent experienced man, I expect he would have done a much better job on healthcare than Obama who has the opposite traits.

So, to sum up: Everything you think you know, suspect, or think about in your idle moments is wrong on the facts, wrong on logic, and just plain wrong.

Pacej001 wrote:
Gotta admit you may have something: Obama is trying to fix a problem and he is succeeding". Yes, the problem is the shambling, ever expanding, self-perpetuating train wreck of Obamacare. His "fix" is to, one piece at a time, repeal his law by executive order. Shoots, he isn't even issuing executive orders any more. He's down to waving, extending, and providing exceptions to Obamacare by BLOG POSTS.

This, my friend, is a pretty tragicomic way to run the greatest country on the planet. A year from now we'll be looking back on the launch of as a debris field to be investigated and pondered over much as the FAA analyzes the crash of an airliner or NSA investigated the Challenger disaster. Obvious to all but the true believers.
