Hawaii ranks in the top third of all states for the number of workers holding down more than one job, according to a report released Friday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
An estimated 6.2 percent of Hawaii workers reported having more than one job in 2012, tying it with Kansas for 13th highest rate nationally, according to the report.
South Dakota topped the list with a multiple jobholding rate of 9.5 percent, while Florida had the lowest rate at 3.4 percent.
The national average for workers holding more than one job was 4.9 percent. The U.S. multiple-jobholding rate has declined gradually or remained flat each year since peaking at 6.2 percent in 1996, according to the report.
The largest declines over that 16-year span occurred in Missouri, down 3.7 percentage points; Idaho, down 3.5 percentage points; and Hawaii, down 3.2 percentage points, according to the report.
