The governor ordered that flags fly at half-staff on Saturday, the day of Hawaii Health Director Loretta Fuddy's funeral.

Gov. Neil Abercrombie said flags must fly at half-staff at all state offices, agencies and the Hawaii National Guard from sunrise to sunset Saturday.

Abercrombie says it's to mark respect for Fuddy, who died after a plane she was a passenger in crashed in the waters off Molokai. The pilot and seven other passengers survived without major injuries. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.

Memorial services were scheduled for Saturday morning at Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa in Kalihi.

It's too bad she passed away, but wasn't she really just a department head working in a bureaucratic position? So much has been made of her passing by the media and state as if it was Martin Luther King or Ghandi who passed away.

just saying in a very quiet voice now, that a department director is a pretty low position to be deserving of such high respect. where is the line drawn on who deserves such tribute? the park director? the snack bar attendant?
