Oregon State receiver, Brandin Cooks celebrates Oregon State's first touchdown during the Hawaii Bowl at Aloha Stadium this afternoon.
Oregon State cornerback Rashaad Reynolds returned two fumbles for touchdowns in the first half and running back Storm Woods ran for 107 yards and a score and the Beavers rolled to a 38-23 win over Boise State in the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl today at Aloha Stadium.
Reynolds scored on a 3-yard fumble return late in the first quarter and took another back 70 yards midway through the second as the Beavers built a 31-6 halftime lead on their way to snapping a five-game losing streak.
Boise State ended the season at 8-5 and ended a run of four consecutive bowl victories.
OSU quarterback Sean Mannion broke the Pac-12’s single-season record for passing yards in the first quarter and finished the game 24-for-33 for 259 yards and a touchdown.
Receiver Brandin Cooks had eight catches for 60 yards and also set the Pac-12’s single-season record for receiving yards.
With the Beavers leading 10-3, the Oregon State defense provided the turning point with about three minutes left in the first quarter.
Oregon State defensive end Scott Crichton pushed the Broncos back to the 6 by dropping running back Jay Ajayi for a 9-yard loss. On the next play, Crichton caught Boise State quarterback Grant Hedrick in the end zone and knocked the ball loose. Reynolds scooped it up at the 3 and took it into the end zone and Oregon State took a 17-3 lead.
Boise State answered with a field goal and came up with a stop on fourth down on Oregon State’s next possession.
The Broncos drove to the Oregon State 33 when Larry Scott forced another fumble after a completion near the sideline. Reynolds was there again to pounce on the loose ball, this time taking it back 70 yards for his second touchdown.
The Beavers continued to pull away when Terron Ward scored on a 9-yard run and the extra point gave Oregon State a 31-6 lead with 2:54 left in the second quarter.
Oregon State forced a Bosie State punt to open the second half and the Beavers drove 94 yards in 13 plays with Woods scoring on a 5-yard run.
Boise State finally reached the end zone with 4:42 left in the third quarter when Ajayi scored on a 1-yard run.
The Broncos closed to 38-20 when Matt Miller scored on an 85-yard touchdown pass from Hedrick, setting a Hawaii Bowl record for longest pass play, with 9:19 left in the game.
Miller finished the game with 11 catches for 206 yards. Hedrick went 32-for-44 for 382 yards and a touchdown.
