Dinner in Waikiki follows a day at the beach for first family

By Star-Advertiser staff & Associated Press

LAST UPDATED: 01:03 a.m. HST, Dec 28, 2013

President Barack Obama went out to dinner at Nobu in Waikiki Friday night after spending a day at the beach with his family.

Tourists snapped photos and took phone videos as the president and his family arrived at about 6:48 p.m.

Obama dined at Nobu during his last two vacations in Hawaii.

Earlier in the day the president and the first family left their Kailua vacation home at about 11 a.m. for Bellows Beach.

They arrived at Bellows Air Force Station at about 11:30 a.m. and spent time at the military side of the base until about 3 p.m., when they returned to their Kailua rental.

Reporters traveling with the president were kept away from the beach area where the first family enjoyed their fun in the sun.

Obama is not the first president to visit Bellows.

President Clinton stayed at Bellows during a visit in 1996.

Before leaving for the beach, the president separately called two senators to tell them he plans to push Congress to quickly extend expiring federal unemployment benefits.

More than 1 million Americans will lose benefits Saturday because Congress didn't extend them. Republican Sen. Dean Heller of Nevada and Democratic Sen. Jack Reed of Rhode Island have proposed extending the benefits for three months.

The White House said Obama called it an urgent economic priority.

Earlier Friday morning, the president went for his usual morning workout at Marine Corps Base Hawaii.

He spent about an hour at the gym, leaving the home just before 8 a.m. and returning shortly after 9 a.m.

Career politicians in Congress have been driving this country off the cliff for quite some time now, and I’ am sorry but the President has no leadership skills. Barry if you’re gonna f @c k the men and women in uniform please stay off their base. CinC – auē!

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the base belongs to the People. And as the leader of this country, he has the authority to enter on any federal property paid by the taxes of the People. Oh, and the People voted him President, twice.

Obama was fortunate (or lucky) on two accounts: the fall of the Stock Market in Sept 2008 and Oct 2008, while Bush was the 43rd, boosted his candidacy. Of course Obama's impassioned speeches helped as well. However the real irony of it all, was that the housing crisis originated in The Clinton Administration, which championed ALL people in America needs to own homes. Then with the extraordinary housing boom starting in 2003 during the Bush era led to Bush's reelection. Soon the bubble burst on Lehman brothers and all that hung on to stocks during the crash of 2008, seemingly blamed Bush, whereas in fact, it all started in the democratic Clinton administration, with the failure of the housing era blamed on a Republican President, while it all started in The Clinton era. Hence Obama was very fortunate that he got elected, not only the first time, however even the second time.

The "fake birth certificate", that was the funniest and the "best evidence" the Republicans "have against" Obama. For 2014, the Repubs will use it again, with Donald Trump leading the way.

The "urgent economic priority" should be repealing Barry Care immediately if not sooner. The can't mind their own business progressives with Barry as the "Great Helmsman" have completely dismantled the US healthcare program by convincing the uninformed masses they would be getting something for nothing. Unfortunately he still has a lot of cheerleaders in the media so the uninformed masses either don't know how bad things will be or will not associate Barry with the mess he has created.

Well u know I would not want to throw some cold water on any celebration, except extended unemployment benefits can be paid only if people are looking for work. BHO please give this country inspiration to create work, and not to sit on the couch knowing that we will be looked after, via "free money" from the government, and remember the extended benefits are paid by a State, NOT the federal government.

How right you are sir. May I take it one step further however. Neither the state nor the federal government has money until it is taken from taxpayers or in the case of the feds printed. Sadly many people are ignorant of this fact and politicians of both parties aren't too eager for for the people to find out.

Germany canned the length of their unemployment just like we are doing. People got too comfortable with their pay and stopped looking for work. BTW, Clinton did stay at Bellows. Two beautiful VIP mansions, great security but not good enough for the messiah--rather disrupt a neighborhood.
