President Barack Obama bid farewell before leaving for Washington Saturday night with his daughters Sasha and Malia aboard Air Force One at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. Obama’s 17-day vacation, which spanned Christmas and New Year’s Day, was his longest in the islands so far in his presidency.

The 15-day Hawaiian holiday vacation is over for President Barack Obama and daughters Sasha and Malia.
The president and his daughters arrived back at the White House on a chilly, drizzly Sunday morning after an eight-hour flight on Air Force One.
The temperature in Washington D.C. when the president arrived at 10:30 a.m. Washington time was 36 degrees with an icy slush on the ground.
First lady Michelle Obama is getting a few extra days of Hawaiian sun.
Mrs. Obama stayed behind to spend time with friends ahead of her upcoming 50th birthday party. The White House says the extra time in the islands is part of Mrs. Obama’s birthday gift from the president.
The first lady turns 50 on Jan. 17. The White House did not say when she planned to return to Washington.
Before leaving, the Obamas went out to dinner at Buzz’s Lanikai steak house.
The president also got in a final round of golf Saturday afternoon.
Instead of his usual morning workout, Obama and and his wife went on a brief morning hike Saturday, visiting the Na Pohaku O Hauwahine trail, overlooking the Kawainui marsh, near their Kailua vacation home.
