2 missing pig hunters found after spending night in Makawao forest

Maui firefighters rescued two pig hunters reported missing Sunday night.

Firefighters began searching for the missing men at about 7 p.m. Sunday in the Makawao Forest Reserve.

One of the men was spotted at about 7:30 a.m. Monday, shortly after search and rescue efforts resumed at first light. He was airlifted out of the forest and did not require medical attention, according to a Fire Department spokesperson.

The second pig hunter was found by Piiholo Ranch personnel at about 11 a.m. He was thirsty and tired, but did not require medical attention,

The hunters became separated after dark and the second hunter spent the night in the forest before walking out.
