Maui fire rescue personnel came to the aid of two fishermen in distress early Monday evening at the Olivine Pools in west Maui.

According to a Maui Fire Department report, one of the men was attempting to untangle his fishing line from some rocks when he was swept into the ocean by a wave. The other man jumped after him in an attempt to help.

Firefighters were called to the scene at 5:19 p.m. and were able to airlift the two men, both believed to be in their mid-20s, to safety.
