The highest wind gusts on Oahu Wednesday were reported in the Waianae Valley, where wind speeds reached 54 mph, the National Weather Service said today.
Other strong winds were reported at Kuaokala, near Mokuleia, (49 mph); Kii, near Kahuku, (47 mph); the Kahuku training range (45 mph); and in Makua (41 mph).
The Lihue Airport recorded 43 mph winds, while Barking Sands and Port Allen saw 40 mph gusts on Kauai, the weather service said.
Utility crews and firefighters were kept busy responding to reports of downed power lines and blown roofs Tuesday and Wednesday as high winds followed briefly heavy rain from a cold front that moved over the islands.
National Weather Service forecasters say we can expect sunny skies and cool nights, with temperatures dropping into the 50s or low 60s, for the next several days.
Another cold front, weaker than the last storm system, is expected to move over the islands starting Saturday or Sunday.
It is not expected to bring heavy rains or strong winds.
But winds could become breezy and we ould see an increase in showers through early next week as the front lingers near Maui and the Big Island.
