Bob's Big Boy Hawaii, which closed its Mapunapuna restaurant after a fire in April 2009, has reopened under a new name in Waipahu Town Center in the former Sizzler location.

The new restaurant, Bob's Big Bear Diner Waipahu, will celebrate its grand opening from noon to 9:30 p.m. today at 94-030 Farrington Highway and will feature appearances by comedian Frank De Lima and radio personality Bart DaSilva.

A classic cheeseburger, fries and coke float will be sold for $10.79, and there will be 60 free meal giveaways, free gummy bears and 1950 deejay music.

Many former employees of Bob's Big Boy Hawaii have been hired.

Good question. Bob's was a nice restaurant. Wonder why they didn't reopen in Mapunapuna? Not like there are many restaurants around there.

Was sad to read about the fire back then. Was a great place to go when Gibson's was still open back then.

Sounds like they couldn't get a franchise license so they had to change the name. Now they can server any food they want instead of what the franchise orders them to serve.

I have to wonder if the fire at Bob's Mapunapuna was an attempt business insurance fraud attempt? Owner losing money, increasing debt, restaurant old and breaking down ... maybe try to get fire insurance check to pay off debts?
