Kona winds are likely to bring vog and muggy conditions today and rain next week as a cold front moves over the islands.
People planning outdoor Super Bowl parties may need rain contingency plans. But forecasters say the front should pass Oahu and Kauai by Sunday.
“Sunday doesn’t look terrible,” National Weather Service meteorologist Chris Jacobson said. “There’s still going to be some rain.”
“We wouldn’t expect totally dry conditions,” he added, “but it doesn’t appear that there will be an all-day rain situation. It doesn’t look like a wash out.”
Showers may pop up on Oahu this afternoon through Saturday.
Rain should be heaviest as the front passes Kauai on Saturday and Oahu later that night.
Scattered showers are likely through next week as moisture from the front lingers over the state and is expected to stall, bringing rain for much of the week until tradewinds return on Friday.
