The Honolulu Police Commission announced today that it has reappointed Honolulu Police Department Chief Louis Kealoha to a second five-year term as top cop, according to a news release.

Over the past two years, the commission rated Kealoha's performance as "Exceeds Expectations," according to the release issued by the commission.

Kealoha's current term ends Nov. 27, 2014. The commission took action on the early reappointment at a meeting held Wednesday. The move allows Kealoha to continue serving as chief until November 2019.

My experience with Chief Kealoha has been nothing but positive. He is hard on crime without being overzealous. More importantly he has the respect of the officers in the field and leads by example. Also hie fair in administering the business affairs of the police department. I think his early reappointment is well deserved and brings stability to the police force -- something that was lacking since the retirement of Chief Nakamura.

I applaud the early reappointment of Chief Kealoha to another 5 yr. term. My dealings with him have always been positive. He is tough on crime without being overzealous. Most importantly, having come from the field, he has the respect of the rank and file officers and leads by example. His reappointment brings stability to the department -- something that has been missing since the retirement of Chief Nakamura.
