Wailuku man dead after truck crashes into tree

A 46-year-old Wailuku man died Tuesday after the truck he was driving hit a parked car, a cement barrier and ended colliding with a coconut tree inside Baldwin Beach Park in Paia.

Maui police identified the victim as Harlan Masuda.

Cause of death is pending an autopsy.

Police said witness reported that a 2004 white Dodge pickup truck at 4:20 p.m. initially collided with a parked car and drove into a cement barrier which broke. The truck then accelerated into the soccer field and hit a coconut tree inside the park. The driver died at the scene.
