A getaway for Valentine's Day in Kihei would be the U.S.' most expensive stay, according to CheapHotels.org.

Hawaii in fact has five destinations on the vacation booking site's top 10 list.

The website conducted a survey comparing U.S. destinations according to hotel room rates for the Valentine's Day through Presidents' Day weekend, from Friday through Monday, and Kihei's $416 per night put it at the top.

The $416 is the average cost for the most affordable double room.

Market forces dictate prices, so there individuals willing to pay those prices. If you got the money, why not? For me, I would hedge paying those prices, although have paid $1,500 for suite and $450 for and adjoining room at the Ritz-Carlton at Dana Point, California to entertain a dear friend from Japan, because he desired and experienced a stay at a high-end hotel with an ocean view in the USA.

Just ignore holidays or make alternative dates for them and then go on the off times to avoid being scalped or gouged.

Nothing like being stuck in a Kihei or Lahaina traffic jam, although I've read that Honolulu traffic is a craziness all of it's own.
