LAST UPDATED: 08:50 a.m. HST, Feb 21, 2014

Campus Security at the University of Hawaii issued a warning Thursday about a suspicious man following a female student Wednesday in Manoa.

According to the alert, the student was jogging in Manoa about 7:30 p.m. when an elderly couple driving by stopped and warned her of a suspicious man in a vehicle down the street.

When the man approached them, the student and the couple drove together a few blocks to a park near Manoa Marketplace.

The man, driving a gold-colored Toyota with license plate GSU045, followed them, got out of his vehicle, and began yelling and hitting the couple's vehicle.

Police were called, but the man left before officers arrived.

The man was in his late 20s, 5 feet 6 inches tall, and had a buzzed haircut.

Anyone who sees the man or his vehicle on campus is asked to call Campus Security at 956-6911 or report it anonymously at www.hawaii.edu/security/tip.html.

This guy is known to HPD and to people in Manoa who have encountered/heard of him. He's either nuts or on drugs and seems highly unstable. Glad to see they're finally warning the public.

If that's the case, HPD should pay this guy a visit and have him checked out. He seem to have a history according to your comments so I think it's reason enough to check this guy out. Remember the guy on the windward side a few years back who was threatening his neighbors for years. Finally, someone with the help of HPD documented his threats and he initially was serving time in OCCC but last I heard, was transferred to the state hospital. This guy is Manoa is potential a health hazard to others.

Has UH ever considered creating a University Police Department? An agency more well equipped to detect and apprehend serious offenders?
