UH releases 2014 football schedule

By Ferd Lewis

LAST UPDATED: 05:55 a.m. HST, Feb 21, 2014

For the first time in its 105-year football history, the University of Hawaii will not close its regular season schedule at home.

Meanwhile, the Rainbow Warriors will play three of their last four games on the road in the Mountain West Conference, according to the 13-game 2014 conference schedule announced on Thursday.

The 'Bows will play at Colorado State Nov. 8, at San Jose State Nov. 15, and close at Fresno State Nov. 29 sandwiched around a Nov. 22 game against Nevada-Las Vegas at Aloha Stadium.

UH did, however, draw a September open date thereby avoiding the possibility of three consecutive road games.

UH was already scheduled to play non-conference games at Colorado Sept. 20 and Oct. 4 at Rice in Houston.

UH opens conference play Oct. 11 with Wyoming at Aloha Stadium.

Some dates are subject to change due to conference TV considerations, officials said.

UH Football Schedule:

Aug. 30 - Washington at UH.

Sept. 6 - Oregon State at UH.

Sept. 13 - Northern Iowa at UH.

Sept. 20 - UH at Colorado.

Sept. 27 - Open.

Oct. 4   - UH at Rice.

Oct. 11 - Wyoming at UH.

Nov. 8 - UH at Colorado State.

The 5th game should be a snap. I hear Open doesn't have much of an offense and their defense gave up 35 points a game last year and their returning all their starters.

So is the open game home or away?

I don't agree. Last year, the team actually was doing quite well during the second half of the season. They just got into the habit of losing and hadn't quite learned how to win.

Seriously, why? Mac got fired having a record with double the wins of Chow. Five wins will result in a 9-27 record for Chow for 3 years. So that's a record you would defend?
