Morgan Mason scored a putback basket at the buzzer to give the Hawaii women’s basketball team a 55-54 win at UC Irvine on Thursday.

Mason grabbed an offensive rebound of a miss by Shawna Kuehu with six seconds left, and put home UH’s third shot on its desperate final possession to eke out the narrow road win. The Rainbow Wahine had led by 13 points at the midpoint of the second half.

UH (14-10, 8-4 Big West) remained in sole possession of third place in conference play despite its top player, senior forward Kamilah Jackson, missing her second straight game with a right foot injury.

Mason led the way with 14 points and a career-best eight rebounds. Destiny King added 11 points and seven boards, Kuehu scored 10. Guard Sydney Haydel helped make up for Jackson’s absence by grabbing 11 rebounds.
