Man charged in Waianae car dragging case

By Gregg K. Kakesako

LAST UPDATED: 07:52 a.m. HST, Feb 21, 2014

A 48-year-old man was charged Thursday with attempting to murder two people in a Waianae parking lot earlier this week after he allegedly hit them with his car, dragging a man four blocks.

Miguel Torres, who told police he had no local address, was charged with one count of first-degree attempted murder and two counts of second degree attempted murder Thursday night. His bail was set at $200,000.

Torres is accused of running into a 35-year-old man and his 18-year-old female companion in the parking lot of the Waimaha housing public housing complex on McArthur street at 6:45 a.m. Monday. The victim was dragged for four blocks until he fell from the under carriage of Torres' car on Mill street near Tamura Superette.

The victim was taken to Queen's Medical Center. The 18-year-old woman was treated at Waianae Comprehensive Health Center and released.

The suspect fled and was captured  Wednesday morning in Kalihi.

Torres has been convicted of 10 misdemeanors, ranging from abuse to theft and drunken driving, starting from 1988.

NanakuliBoss: So I guess your comment was not so "sick and inappropriate" after all!! Heehee Kalaheo1: I am making an educated guess that "Dragee" and his "18 year old companion" were also low life people. Just saying....

Drug test all occupants in public housing units. No more money, get public assistance, buy e-cigs, pay for expensive phones and with the xtras buy drugs (not really in that order). There's a lot of struggling people not using that could use their housing space and rental benefit. They dealing right in the parking lot.

a tracking bracelet should be attached to all - until trial. How are the police supposed to locate individuals if they have no address and do not show up for court?

If convicted, I hope this menace to society sentence is to be dragged from the rear bumper of a high powered V-8 equipped car with a thick rope affixed to his neck at speeds in excess of 100 mph from Kapolei to Kahala on the H-1 / Moanalua Freeway or until only his head and part of his neck remains.

Placing Sunia Faaofonuu and Miguel Torres in the same prison cell for a life sentence would be justice for the Hawaii public.
