Senior wing Shawna Kuehu scored a career-high 28 points to carry the Hawaii women’s basketball team to an 82-71 victory over Long Beach State on Thursday at the Stan Sheriff Center.

UH (15-11, 9-5 Big West) moved into a second-place tie with Cal Poly with two regular-season games remaining before the conference tournament.

Center Pua Kailiawa added a career-best 13 points as part of her first career double-double, helping make up for the absence of forward Kamilah Jackson. Jackson missed her fourth straight game with a sprained right foot.

UH saw a 20-point lead shrink to seven at the midpoint of the second half, but the Wahine didn’t allow the advantage to drop below six the rest of the way.

Point guard Anna Kim led LBSU (15-11, 7-6) with 20 points.
