Hawaii pitcher Matt Cooper pitches in the top of the ninth inning of a college baseball game between the Pepperdine Waves and the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Les Murakami Stadium in Honolulu.

Hawaii senior Matt Cooper was named the Big West pitcher of the week on Monday after tossing a three-hit shutout against Pepperdine last Wednesday.

Cooper (2-0) was masterful against the Waves, striking out 10 and walking none to pitch his second career complete game shutout. He threw 83 of his 107 pitches for strikes and allowed only one Pepperdine baserunner to reach second base.

The right-hander struck out the side in the ninth to record Hawaii’s first shutout with at least 10 strikeouts since Jared Alexander in 2008. He has not allowed an earned run this season and owns a career 1.60 ERA in 73 innings at Les Murakami Stadium.

Hawaii finished 6-6 on its season-opening homestand. The Rainbow Warriors head to Texas to play the 15th-ranked Longhorns in a four-game series starting Friday.
