Idaho coach Lee Leslie confirmed on Thursday that he has been hired to be the school's next football coach, replacing ReggieTorres
The Reggie Torres era is over in Kahuku football.
Idaho coach Lee Leslie confirmed on Thursday that he has been hired to be the school’s next football coach, replacing Torres. Torres has been the head coach at Kahuku since 2006, when he took over for Siuaki Livai.
Leslie, who is currently a coach at Kuna (Idaho) High, has 17 championships to his credit. He has coached in the AFL and was a graduate assistant on Ron McBride’s staff at Utah. His most recent title was at Bishop Kelly in Idaho in 2010.
"My first goal is to talk to the few people I know there and put together a staff," Leslie said. "I want to interview the current staff, too. My main goal is to inspire these kids to go onto college."
Torres is 75-14 as the school’s head football coach and has 11 state championships to his credit in football, wrestling and judo.
"You always want to go out on your own terms, but it is what it is," Torres said. "I just want to thank my staff, everyone who supported me. The kids are still my boys and I will be their biggest fans, I hope someone can come in and bring them the success they deserve."
Torres and other coaches were asked to reapply for their positions last month as part of new principal Pauline Masaniai’s review of the athletic department.
The school begins interviewing for Tehani Fiatoa’s position of head volleyball coach next week.
