UH faculty union endorses Abercrombie for second term

By Star-Advertiser staff

The University of Hawaii Professional Assembly on Tuesday endorsed Gov. Neil Abercrombie's re-election campaign.

The union, which represents about 4,000 university faculty, had also supported Abercrombie four years ago.

"Gov. Abercrombie has always supported education," David Duffy, the union's president, said in a statement. "He has been in our shoes so he understands our issues. He's gotten us through the recent rough times and we know he'll continue to lay the educational foundation for Hawaii's future generations to prosper."

Abercrombie,a one-time teaching assistant at UH, is facing state Sen. David Ige in the Democratic primary.

Why? I guess because he does the same kind of shenanigans as Musto and everyone else in Hawaii Hall! The Chinese development officer sure had him wrapped around her little finger, invitations to supposed Buddhist conversation groups in Honolulu Hale excluding folks who had supported him for years! Hopefully the Koch brothers will go to work there and get a solid Republican candidate in! This from a liberatarian.

Of course they endorsed the guy. Like they did with Lingle, they want to cozy up to the person who they think will win so they will get good raises in the future. They will probably be the only public union to endorse the guy in the primary IMHO since all the other unions got screwed compared to UHPA, who took a pay cut only to have them reimburse them for their losses a few years later AND get good raises. I hope that Ige wins so UHPA is on the short end of the bargaining chip this time.
