Woman killed in Kalihi pedestrian accident is identified

The Medical Examiner’s Office identified the 83-year-old woman, who died Tuesday from injuries she received when she was hit by a car nearly a month ago in Kalihi as Esther Apelin.

Cause of death was multiple blunt force injuries due to auto accident. Matter of death was accidental, according to the ME’s office.

Police said that on Feb. 20 around 9:20 a.m. Apelin was crossing Dillingham Boulevard when she wa struck by a car near Waikamilo Road.

This was Oahu’s 15th traffic death, compared to 18 at the same time a year ago.
