By Star-Advertiser staff

LAST UPDATED: 07:46 a.m. HST, Mar 22, 2014

Maui firefighters are searching for two lost teenage hikers in the Seven Sacred Pools area of Kipahulu.

The two 16-year-old girls were hiking Friday with two adults and a juvenile male when they were separated from the rest of the party by rising stream water.

A helicopter searched the area until 7:15 p.m. before discontinuing the search due to darkness. A concurrent ground search continued until just before 9 p.m.

The search will resume tomorrow at first light.
