Lane closures scheduled on H-1 in both directions

By Star-Advertiser Staff

LAST UPDATED: 02:14 p.m. HST, Mar 22, 2014

Motorists can expect to see lane closures in both directions on the H-1 freeway between the Manager's Drive overpass and the Kaahumanu Street overpass for deck repairs the next three Sundays.

During the daytime, the three right lanes will be closed in the westbound direction on Sunday March 23 from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m., according to the state Department of Transportation.

During the nighttime, two eastbound right lanes will be closed on March 23, 30, and April 6 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.

The Pearl City Viaduct Deck Repair project is rebuilding the H1 Freeway viaduct by demolishing and rebuilding sections of the concrete deck overnight.  In addition this project includes widening of the Pearl City Viaduct from the westbound Pearl City On Ramp to the Waipahu Off Ramp to create an auxiliary lane and widening of the H1 Freeway west of the H1/H2 merge.  These improvements are designed to improve traffic flow through the area.

For more information, please visit the project website at www.pmcontraflow.com or call the project hotline at (808) 945-1144.

In only 3 days of work they aren't going to substantially repair/change the freeway other that what they can accomplish with white paint striping. Instead of really doing something meaningful, they are just reallocating existing roadway to provide additional, narrower lanes in an attempt to squeeze more traffic into the same space. Big deal. All the inconvenience and lack of meaningful result is just an attempt to try to convince the population that we "really need" the rail.
