Two officers were injured when a 31-year-old car thief tried to run them down while trying to get away in a stolen car Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Officers were attempting to stop the Ewa Beach man, who was speeding on South King street in a stolen car, police said.  The suspect turned into a Tesoro gas station on Punahou Street, injured two officers and hit two vehicles, just after 4 p.m.

Police arrested the suspect at 4:14 p.m. Tuesday on suspicion of first-degree attempted murder, auto theft and resisting arrest.

Police blocked off Punahou Street and the gas station during the afternoon rush hour as they conducted an investigation at the scene.

I saw the accident scene coming down South King Street. At the time, I remember thinking, “how could a car hit a van with that much force coming out of the Jack-in-the-Box parking lot?” The front end is totaled.

I guess police know something we don’t.

I remember seeing his mug shot on TV last night and his face was all purple and smashed up. I bet he'll think twice before trying to resist arrest in the future. :)
