The United Food and Commercial Workers Union in Hawaii is endorsing Gov. Neil Abercrombie in his bid for re-election.

The union announced its support of Abercrombie on Tuesday. It represents 4,500 workers in the grocery, retail, food processing and meatpacking industries.

Union President Pat Loo says the state's economy has turned the corner since Abercrombie took office in 2010. He says Abercrombie has created jobs and reduced unemployment.

Abercrombie says he appreciates the support. He says the union will be help build opportunities for the working class.

Abercrombie will face a challenge from State Sen. David Ige in the primary election this August.

The governor has been pushing for a raise in the minimum wage. It's no wonder. Ige has delayed the raise.

The minimum wage will come this session. Otherwise Ige wold be blamed for not passing it. Credit the governor for advocating that for years. Also credit Abercrombie for the biggest change in the DOE in generations-- teacher evaluation. Too bad that teachers have fought him all the way on this-- despite him avoiding layoffs during the recession.
