The University of Hawaii football team hired Wayne Moses on Friday as assistant coach in charge of running backs.

Moses has worked at five Pac-12 schools in a coaching career dating to 1979, when he was at Cal State Fullerton. Moses and UH head coach Norm Chow were on the same coaching staffs at UCLA and USC.

Moses most recently was at Army, where he coached in 2013 under Rich Ellerson, a former UH defensive coordinator. Ellerson was fired in December.

Moses fills the UH position vacated when Chris Wiesehan resigned to become Temple’s offensive line coach.

Moses is expected to join the Rainbow Warriors in time for Tuesday’s opening of training camp.

The Warriors have one coaching vacancy remaining. They are expected to wait until this summer to replace Phil Rauscher, who was not retained as tight ends coach.
