An 18-year-old Kalihi man suspected of fatally beating a 38-year-old man in Ewa Beach a week ago is in police custody, Honolulu police said.

Police arrested the man on suspicion of second-degree murder around 5:45 p.m. Saturday, without incident, at the Honolulu Police Department’s main station on Beretania Street, according to police records.

The victim was beaten in the middle of the road, fronting 91-965 Komana St. around 12:20 a.m. March 23 from three men who approached him, police said at the time.

One or more of the suspects assaulted him, then the suspects fled in a black or dark-colored sedan on Komana Street toward Pailani Street. Police described the suspects as in their late teens to early 20s.

The victim, of Ewa Beach, sustained critical head and body injuries and died at the hospital. Police did not say when he died. Officers opened a second-degree murder investigation.
