A man in his 60s is in critical condition Monday afternoon after he was found motionless while snorkeling at Hanauma Bay.

Emergency Medical Services said the man was snorkeling 15 to 20 yards offshore when lifeguards found him motionless just after 2 p.m.

Lifeguards brought him to shore and started cardiopulmonary rescusitation, then transfered him to an ambulance crew. He was taken to the emergency room in critical condition.

I suggested before that they should discourage older people from diving and snorkeling. At least they should tell them to do it with a companion. This makes the third senior who had a problem recently while snorkeling. The other 2 died.

There has been many snorkeling accidents at Hanauma Bay in the past year. Perhaps an omen that the area is special and that tourists are violating or trespassing on a sacred land or bay. Back in 1944 after being sworn as a raw recruit in the Army drove out there at night with another teen couple and while spooning felt an eerie feeling that there were some spirits around. Couldn't quite put a finger on it, just felt awkward. Left there with a sigh of relief.
