Gusty wind should ease; Kona weather, rain coming

By Star-Advertiser staff

LAST UPDATED: 09:01 a.m. HST, Apr 04, 2014

Breezy and occasionally gusty trade winds will continue Friday morning and begin easing by Friday night, followed by light winds and Kona weather Saturday and possible showers Sunday through Monday.

The gusty winds are also kicking up surf on east shores, prompting a high surf advisory for east-facing beaches on Oahu, Kauai, Maui, Molokai and the Big Island.

Surf is expected to be 5 to 8 feet through noon Friday.

The National Weather Service says a weather system approaching from the northwest will cut off the trade winds by Saturday, bringing light southerly winds, shifting to the west Saturday night in Honolulu.

Winds will become northerly on Sunday as the front passes, bringing showers mostly to windward areas.

Skies should begin clearing on Kauai and Oahu on Monday, when more typical trade wind weather should return.
