No. 4 Cal Poly completes three-game sweep of Hawaii

Brian Mundell hit a two-run homer and Nick Torres had three hits and two RBIs for No. 4 Cal Poly, which completed a three-game sweep of Hawaii with an 8-3 win on Sunday afternoon at Les Murakami Stadium.

Catcher Chris Hoo went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored for Cal Poly (30-5, 8-1 Big West). Adam Hurley doubled and was one of four Rainbows with two hits as Hawaii (14-19, 2-7) dropped its sixth straight game.

Casey Bloomquist (8-0) pitched 6 2/3 innings in the win, giving up three runs on nine hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

Hawaii left-hander Scott Squier (2-3) pitched well, giving up three earned runs on nine hits in 7 1/3 innings, which was his second-longest outing of the season. He walked three and struck out six.

Cal Poly got five hits in the eighth inning, including three of reliever LJ Brewster to take a 7-3 lead.

Hawaii loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth after Hurley was thrown out trying to score on Jerry Kleman's second hit of the game.

Austin Wobrock drew a two-out walk before Stephen Ventimilia flew out to center.

Freshman Matt Miller went 2-for-3 with a walk and catcher Steven Pollakov was 2-for-4 with an RBI for Hawaii.

Marc Flores hit his fourth home run of the season in the sixth inning.

UH hits the road for seven games, beginning with three at Cal State Northridge starting Thursday.
