National Transportation Safety Board investigator Andrew Swick documented the wreckage of a Piper PA-31 that crashed on Lanai on Feb. 26. A 640-foot debris field stretched from the first point of contact to an engine component near the main wreckage.

WAILUKU >> Billionaire technology entrepreneur Larry Ellison’s management company for Lanai has established a fund to provide financial assistance to the families of those killed or injured when a small plane crashed on the island in February.

Maui County said in a statement Tuesday all funds raised for the "Maui County Remembers" fund will go to crash victims and their families.

Pulama Lanai Chief Operating Officer Kurt Matsumoto says the fund was created to aid victims and their families during a difficult time of recovery and healing.

The crash killed the pilot of the chartered flight and two Maui County planning workers. Three other county employees were injured.

Donations are being accepted at any Bank of Hawaii branch. Online donations may be made through the end of May at www.MauiCountyRemembers.org.
