A 65-year-old woman who drowned in waters off Haena Beach Park on Kauai last week was identified as Gayle Kelly of Washington State.

Kelly was snorkeling with another woman and a child on April 16 when a strong current pulled them out to deep water, Kauai Ocean Safety officials said.

Lifeguards saw them in the water waving for help at about 2 p.m.

Two lifeguards responded on rescue board, but Kelly was unresponsive.

Lifeguards attempted CPR on Kelly as she was taken to shore at Makua Beach, but attempts to resuscitate her were unsuccessful.

Kelly was taken to Wilcox Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
