The Medical Examiner’s office has identified the 89-year-old man who died from injuries he received when he was struck by a car Thursday while crossing Kaneohe Bay Drive as Lawrence Vieira, of Kaneohe.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine cause of death.

Police said a 68-year-old Kailua man driving a white 2009 Volvo sedan struck Vieira, who was in a marked crosswalk. The driver was heading west on Kaneohe Bay Drive near Castle High School.

Paramedics took Vieira in critical  condition to the Queen’s Medical Center, where he died.

The death was Oahu’s 21st fatality this year, compared to 24 at the same time a year ago.
